A DEVIL OF A PART
I once again had the honor of being in The Blank Theater Company’s Young Playwrights festival. I just love doing it. This year I played The Devil in a play titled “God’s Board Meeting” - where Jesus calls together Mohammed, Buddha, Zeus, Thor, Abraham, Shiva and Confucius because God has turned in her letter of resignation. I show up as an uninvited guest. It was a fun farce written by a sixteen year old girl from Twentynine Palms, CA. I had an absolute BLAST playing with the cast and working once again with director Warren Davis.

“RECONCILIATION”
I worked a couple days on an independent feature, “Reconciliation.” Written and directed by Chad Ahrendt, it’s the story of a father and son reconciling their relationship after twenty-four years. I play a not so nice ‘friend’ of the father who appears in a flashback to 1987. It was a great group of folks and a fun shoot (and turns out I had worked with or knew three other cast members - small town.)

LOVING LIFE “UP IN THE AIR”
I traveled to St. Louis to do my part in the next Jason Reitman picture: Up In the Air. It stars George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, and of course me -- Jeff Witzke.
This one is going to be another good one. George plays a guy who is a corporate downsizer (he flies around the country firing people) and is obsessed with accumulating frequent flyer miles. Bateman’s his Boss and Vera’s his love interest. It’s another witty, interesting look at how we live our lives.
I am the host of Goalquest XX, a very prestigious conference where George’s character has been invited to speak.
I had an amazing time. Not only hanging with my friends (the film is produced by Daniel Dubiecki and DP’d by Eric Steelberg -- we did all of Jason’s short films together) - but made new friends, got to watch some talented actors work and enjoyed the good people and hospitality of St. Louis!
I have to thank fabulous costume designer Danny Glicker (“Thank You For Smoking,” and nominated for an Oscar for “Milk”) for giving my character perhaps the best tie in the world! I tried it on and we knew we found Goalquest Gold!

Here I am with Jason, the tie, and our friend -
the camera on the GOALQUEST XX stage.

THESE ARE THE DAYS... OF MY LIFE
I booked a voice over on Days Of Our Lives. The cool part was they had me come to the set to do my part live. (Days was my Mom’s soap when I was growing up - so she was thrilled.) I voice a cranky old man, a patient who yells out his room at the new girl at the hospital. I’m told the episode will air April 7th. So keep an ear out for me!

TAKE ME TO THE ‘PILOT’
I am very excited to announce we have wrapped principal photography on a pilot presentation. Written by and starring Michael Cotter, Darren O’Hare and me! A few months ago we came up with a great idea and then decided - why not write it and go out and shoot it!

Our game got raised to the next level when our director, Lee Friedlander, came aboard. She was amazingly enthusiastic about the project and she made it possible for us to shoot on the new Sony RED camera, got together an amazing crew of about twenty people, and got everything we needed in our three day shoot.

We had good friends help us out in every aspect, from being production assistants to being in the cast!

It was an incredible experience and I’m very excited about seeing how it turns out and what we are able to do with it. Kudos To Michael and Darren - for not only putting up with me , but making it so much fun to shoot - we kept laughing and laughing!

LIFE ON ‘TIL DEATH
I worked a week on the FOX sitcom ‘Til Death, starring Brad Garrett. I play Dave Weber - a suburban father whose family dog , Mr. Bumpers, is missing and Kenny (JB Smoove) returns him for the reward. I had a great time and always love the chance to do a show in front of a live studio audience. (Yet - I broke the first rule of show business - never work with kids or animals. Our scene had the wonder poodle - Dash AND the absolutely adorable Buddy. Oh well, they were both too cute!)

REUNITED... “The Show”
I traveled back to Michigan State University for a reunion of MSU Telecasters, the organization that makes The Show - A student run, produced, written and acted sitcom about dorm life. It was a big part of my life when I was there. I was an actor, writer and even co-produced an episode. The Show is still going 20 years after it’s conception! It was so amazing to celebrate with old friends, meet people who worked on it throughout the years, as well hang with the rockin’ folks who are making it today! A fantastic time I will not soon forget.

STAIN FIGHT CLUB
COLOR BOOSTER CLUB
Keep an eye out for me this fall in two national ads for CLOROX 2 - promoting its stain fighting and color boosting power! They are fun spots where I drive up in the Clorox 2 Van (see below) and dare people to be colorful! A group of kids playing soccer and then a bunch of dirty, dingy construction workers. The spots were directed by Randall Einhorn, who is the director of photography on “The Office”. As he was casting, he remembered me from the commercial we made on “The Office” and requested I come in and audition. Cut to: me getting the job and having a blast shooting the spots.

But wait - there’s more!
Then a couple weeks later I flew up to Oakland (home of Clorox headquarters) and did some green screen work because I will be hosting the Clorox 2 website!

Even more fun. They think the website will launch mid-September. You’ll get to see me doing some wacky stuff... like wearing a jumpsuit and getting ketchup, mustard, dirt and mayo thrown at me. This was the last shot of the day, and of course some got in my hair (that I tried to rinse out). Then had to go straight to the airport. Needless to say, I smelled like a hot dog the whole way home. Hilarious!

I was lucky again to work with another great group of people. Hopefully everyone will be happy with the spots and we’ll make more! More daring to be colorful. More stain fighting. More color boosting!

WHAT’S MY “LINE?”
My friend Ed Stein called me at 9:30 AM and said, “Witzke, what are you doing today?” Well, it turns out an actor in a project he was shooting dropped out last minute. A couple of hours later, I was in Griffith Park in make up and wardrobe shooting a scene from “Above The Line.” Far be it from me to turn down the chance to act... and with a talented friend no less! Just another day in Hollywood.

YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS REVISITED
I was cast again this year in The Blank Theater Company’s Young Playwright’s Festival, in a show called ”Spin Alley.” Written by 19 year old Chad Baker of Beaver Creek, Ohio- it’s the story of what might happen if a male and female candidate for president get thrown into a hotel ‘safe room’ after an assassination attempt at a debate. I played one of the two secret service agents stuck in the room with them. It was VERY well received (even with the air conditioning on the fritz on 100+ degree days!). Such a joy to work on such fresh and interesting projects (with two weeks of rehearsals and one weekend of performances). My kudos to our director Warren Davis and my fellow cast members: Mark Arnold, Beth Broderick, Tom Lenk, Joe Nieves and Angel Parker.

I also had a small part in another play that evening, “Izzy Icarus Fell Off The World” written by Aliza Goldstein (Age 16 from Jacksonville, FL). I played young autistic Izzy’s father. Another fine (young) cast: Juliette Goglia, Aidan Mitchell, Parker McKenna Posey. Thanks to director Thia Stephan.

HERE A ‘NIP’ - THERE A ‘TUCK’!
Every so often an audition comes along that I think - “Now this would be so, so, so much fun to shoot.” And in this case, I got that chance. Keeping with the fantastic tone of Nip/Tuck, I play one of “The Steves” - the top agents in LA for baby models. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say we require that the kids get some work done to insure they get hired. That’s right... botoxing babies! It was an amazingly fun day. Great script, awesome cast and crew and lots of laughs. AND it turns out the director (Dirk Craft) went to Michigan State and graduated the year before I arrived. Small, small world!

It was yet another pleasure working with the guys at “Guy” - but there was an amazing bonus when I was finished. There, waiting in the lobby, was none other than the the original Batman himself - ADAM WEST! Go ahead, call me a geek, but it was very cool to meet him. We had a nice conversation. NCIS ON CBS IS A-OK WITH ME!
A nice little birthday gift for me - the day before my Bday I got to spend the day shooting a part on the CBS Navy crime drama: NCIS. I play the attendant at a funeral for a naval officer whose death might just be the result of foul play! Lauren Holly’s character (she plays the Director of the NCIS) overhears me give an important clue to a mysterious stranger. It was a great day of work on location at the beautiful Forever Hollywood Cemetery.

A fantastic surprise was to find out that an old friend, SaraJane Bos, works on the Art Department of the show! She took great care of me. It’s always a treat to get a chance to work with friends.

A CLASS-Y SHORT
My fabulous acting teacher, Lesly Kahn has been encouraging us to create our own content to post online. So this month we had an assignment to write a scene for two of our classmates. INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH
I worked on an industrial video for Microsoft. It’s for a new product that was so top secret, they couldn’t tell me the name of it - but I know it has to do with do with a photo program. I played a father who spends the day taking pictures with my son and we email the pictures to mom. I was in and out of a suit of armor, scuba gear, 50’s cardigan and a safari outfit. So, I have no idea where and when it will appear - but it should be entertaining.

I have been a huge fan from the beginning... I’m talking the original British series with Rickey Gervais, vis a vis, becoming a fan of the American version. So I was BEYOND excited when I got the call from my favorite director and amazing friend Jason, saying he was directing an episode and there was a role he was pushing for me to play!
I am in the episode titled, “Local Ad” - where they decide to make a commercial for Dunder-Mifflin. I am the star of corporate's ad, playing the frazzled business man who can’t get help from a chain store and is relieved to find Dunder-Mifflin.
I had a fantastic time and think it’s going to be a fun episode (especially when Michael decides to direct his own commercial).

TORONTO, Ont.—- I don’t know when I’ve heard a standing ovation so long, loud and warm as the one after Jason Reitman’s “Juno,” which I predict will become quickly beloved when it opens at Christmas time, and win a best actress nomination for its 20- year old star, Ellen Page.

YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS RULE!
I had the great honor of being a part of The Blank Theater Company’s 15th Annual Young Playwrights Festival. They do a nation wide contest looking for plays written by teenagers, ages 13 to 19. The top twelve plays are then produced for a weekend with actors, costumes, lights, etc. They put up three plays a week, and I was in the first weekend of the festival in a show called “Counting The Sheep.” A very smart farce about the U.S. Supreme Court written by 16 year old Matt Grossman from New York, NY.

I played an attorney arguing a case, and kissing the judicial butts of Justices.
It was a fun 2 week rehearsal process and a blast to perform in front of an audience. A huge bonus was that I got to have fun and play against Bonita Friedericy (a mini “Book of Liz” reunion). My favorite part was hearing our author giggling in the audience every time he watched it. A fantastic experience all the way around!

GOING TO THE ‘MAX’
I just returned from a whirlwind two day trip to Dallas, where I shot a fun internet ‘webisode’ for a new Pepsi product, Diet Pepsi Max. It’s an invigorating cola with more caffeine and ginseng - yet no calories! Their ads will focus on people getting rid of yawns -- which will drive traffic to a website. There you will find me as the cheesy host of “The Yawn-A-Thon” --where folks are urged to donate their yawns instead of money. The shoot was so much fun, and I had a blast with the folks from Pepsi and their agency, Tribal DDB. I think it will turn out to be quite a fun piece - so once they have it up and running - I’ll post a link.

Last weekend we completed our three night shoot (yes - basically from 7 PM to 7 AM) on

A HAT TRICK OF A WEEK!
Well it was a busy, busy week for me. I got the chance to go to war, take a road trip and go start the holidays right... so to speak.
I did a fun little spot on the Fox comedy, “The War At Home” where I played a paramedic in one of their comic fantasy sequences.
Then took a trip down to Orange County to play yet another role on the hit show “The OC.” I’m part of this year’s ‘Chrismikkuh’ episode, playing a news corespondent. As not to confuse viewers - and start a slew of letters to the producers, I decided that the snippy store clerk I played last season became so intrigued by the watch stealing that he went into investigative journalism.
And finally - I worked on a national holiday spot for Wal•Mart. Come holiday season keep an eye our for me at a party singing “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” I tell ya, there’s nothing like singing that song over, and over and over again all day long. NOTHING!
It was a glorious week and an experience that makes me realize how much I love being on sets and doing what I do. It’s a pretty cool thing.
